Strength and conditioning coaching extends beyond physiological and biomechanical expertise to include the interpersonal and social skills required to support athletes holistically. This article introduces a UKSCA-led initiative to develop psychosocial coaching competencies through a dedicated educational workshop. Drawing on an international action research project, the authors identify four interconnected competency areas - psychological, pedagogical, philosophical and sociocultural - and examine current gaps in coaches' understanding of these domains. While psychological skills such as trust and respect were widely recognised, pedagogical, philosophical and sociocultural competencies were often overlooked or misunderstood. The article outlines recommendations for integrating these competencies into the UKSCA curriculum through workshops, mentorship and structured critical reflection. Ultimately, it argues that strengthening psychosocial coaching practice will improve coach education, promote more inclusive and athlete-centred environments and better prepare strength and conditioning coaches to meet the complex demands of modern sport.
