Golf is a sport with an ever-growing importance being placed on the athletic qualities and physical preparation of its athletes. Strength and power have been shown to be vital characteristics with relation to golfing performance, and training interventions have demonstrated their effectiveness as a means of performance enhancement. This article aims to outline the importance of ‘train well’, ‘eat well’ and ‘rest well’ principles in golf, and discusses the implementation of a nationwide youth athletic development programme within England Golf.
