Sprint acceleration mechanics and training
This session will include a state-of-the-art discussion about current concepts in sprint acceleration mechanics and performance, including the horizontal force production and effectiveness of ground force application. These concepts will be illustrated by data in world-elite sprinters (C Lemaitre and J Vicaut, France). Jean-Benoit will then detail current hypotheses on the role of hip extensor muscles in horizontal force production, in relation to both training and hamstring injury prevention. Finally, the presentation will include details on a new simple field method to compute force, velocity and power in sprinting from simple time/velocity measurements. Applications include track and field, soccer, rugby, field hockey, bobsleigh and all sports in which acceleration is a key determinant of performance.
