S&C and nutrition: a multidisciplinary approach to working effectively in team sports

Achieving a synergistic relationship amongst multiple practitioners working within a sport is crucial but can be complex. The objective of this session is to discuss how a combined nutrition and physical preparation approach to performance profiling, diagnostics and planning was implemented, to identify and achieve sports performance objectives. BIOG: Emma is a senior performance nutritionist at the English Institute of Sport where she leads the performance nutrition support for the Great Britain Women’s Hockey Team and Northampton Saints Rugby Club. Emma was part of the Team GB Sport Science Support Team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro where she led the nutrition provision for 15 sports at the holding camp based in Belo Horizonte. A graduate in sport and exercise science, with two MSc’s in sport & exercise science and sports nutrition respectively, Emma is also a high performance registrant with the Sport & Exercise Nutrition Register. BIOG: Dr. Ben Rosenblatt is the Lead Men’s Physical Performance Coach for the FA. Prior to this he was the Senior S&C Coach for the Olympic winning GB Women’s Hockey team. Ben is passionate about working as part of a team to find training solutions to support teams, coaches and athletes achieve their ambitions. He developed his experience in research, rehabilitation and athletic preparation by completing a PhD in the biomechanics of exercise specificity, being the Senior Rehabilitation Scientist for BOA and EIS and a former role as Head of Science and Conditioning at Birmingham City FC. He continues to provide S&C support to developing and elite judo fighters at Camberley Judo Club.
