Drawing on evidence from literature, and the internal analysis of weightlifting performance and diagnostic data, this presentation will discuss the role force platform technology plays in the diagnosis of neuro-muscular force-generating characteristics of elite Olympic weightlifters, and how this has shaped the British Weight Lifting World Class Programme’s understanding of the physical determinants of weightlifting performance. Shaun will go on to discuss the unique and novel application of dual-force platform technology in the analysis of Olympic weightlifting movements and their derivatives, and how bilateral asymmetry assessment is being used to identify injury risk. The central point of this presentation will be to provide practical examples and case studies to demonstrate how this information is utilised within an inter-disciplinary team to inform and direct long-term training objectives as well as day-to-day decision-making. BIOG: Shaun Joffe is the strength scientist for the British Weight Lifting World Class Programme based at Loughborough University. He is responsible for overseeing the practical implementation of applied strength and conditioning science in the physical development of the GB Olympic female weightlifters and the Paralympic powerlifters. Shaun has spent 6 years in the English Institute of Sport working with a number of sports including GB Para-Rowing, GB Hockey, England Women’s Rugby, England Women’s Football plus a number of other GB and England national teams. In 2008, Shaun received a BSc (Hons) in sport science from Bucks New University and later went on to complete an MSc in strength and conditioning from the University of Edinburgh in 2009. Shaun is a UKSCA accredited S&C coach, BWL Level 2 club coach and currently the head coach for Loughborough University Weightlifting Team.
