Athlete monitoring: research to practical application

Athlete monitoring systems have become more commonplace in sport. This session will discuss the link between the science and practical application of athlete monitoring, with particular reference to resistance training. Data collection, analysis, and interpretation of monitoring data to inform training programme design and assist athlete preparation will be highlighted. BIOG: Mike McGuigan is a Professor of Strength and Conditioning at Auckland University of Technology. He was previously a Power Scientist with High Performance Sport New Zealand from 2009-2012, where he worked with many of New Zealand’s elite athletes. Prior to this, he worked in a variety of academic roles in Universities in Australia and the USA. He is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance. Mike was the research and innovation coordinator for the New Zealand Silver Ferns netball team from 2009-2015. His research interests are in the areas of strength and power development and athlete monitoring.
